Reporting with Pride: Improving LGBTIQ+ Representation in Kosovo’s Media

This project aimed to transform how LGBTIQ+ lives and issues are represented in Kosovo’s media landscape. While progress has been made in human rights discourse, media coverage of LGBTIQ+ communities in Kosovo has often remained limited—frequently shaped by misinformation, stereotypes, or silence. Through this project, we worked to challenge these patterns by strengthening the capacities of journalists to produce ethical, accurate, and sensitive reporting on LGBTIQ+ topics. A key component of the project was a two-day intensive training program for 7 journalists, including participants from various media outlets and students from the University of Prishtina. The training focused on professional journalism standards with an emphasis on human rights, inclusive language, ethical storytelling, and safety considerations when reporting on vulnerable communities.

Following the training, participants received micro-fellowships to develop original stories, highlighting underrepresented voices within Kosovo’s LGBTIQ+ community. These stories were published in collaboration with Kallxo.com, our media partner, ensuring visibility through a widely accessed mainstream platform.

As a result, the project successfully produced and published 7 original stories, contributing to more inclusive and human-centered narratives in the media.
